Social Media and Privacy

WITWA Committee Member Sarah Mitchell speaks at the ACS on SOCIAL MEDIA and PRIVACY

We often hear about technological ‘break-throughs’ and discoveries but rarely hear about a legal ‘breakthrough’ or innovation. This is because law by its nature is iterative and technology by its nature is innovative. This also means that technology law is generally a few steps behind the latest technological developments and is always playing catch-up.

The ACS is agnostic to social media. We neither love nor hate Facebook, Twitter or other forms of social media. Indeed, the ACS has a Facebook page and we regularly Tweet too. We see the valuable role social media plays in social and community inclusion (e.g. Queensland Floods). However, we also see issues and challenges that require leadership and discussion at a national level.

Speaker: Sarah Mitchel is a director of Global Copywriting. She has had a long career in ICT and is very passionate re Social Media and its implications.
