About Us

About the Western Australian Chapter of Women are I.T.(WIT).

Women are I.T. (WIT) was the brainchild of Madeline Sanders and Jenny Barbour, and incubated in Melbourne in 1998. Not long after Loula Papandreou and Yvonne Parle formed the Western Australian Chapter in 1999.

Since then, WIT WA has incorporated and now has 6 committee members and over 300 subscribers, male as well as female.

Our Mission is

  • To create and sustain a community for women engaged in the Information Communication Technology (ICT) Industries;
  • To promote and encourage the entry and retention of women in roles within ICT Industries;
  • To educate women in the ICT Industries;
  • To support women working in the ICT Industries and Sciences through mentoring and coaching.
  • To foster women’s input into the ICT Industries and Sciences.

How do we achieve this?

We aim to run six networking seminar events per year. Four events are female only, two events are mixed (co-ed). Depending on timing and availability we run different types of events:

  • Seminar Breakfasts and Seminar Lunches at the fabulous Matilda Bay Restaurant .  The events are very successful with high calibre guest speakers and plenty of time to get to know the other attendees or just take in the view across the river.
  • Evening Seminars at the historical Melbourne Hotel.  The evening seminars are informative, as well as casual and relaxing networking opportunities in the historical surrounds of this long established Perth hotel.
